Easy tips to maintain your running shoes.

My thirteen year-old son thinks that running shoes are indestructible.  Not so.  Runners looking for a little advice for their training shoes should read on.  To maximize the service from your sneakers, you must maintain your running shoes periodically.

The majority of higher priced running shoes should survive for 350 to 500 miles.  Your running shoes mileage may vary due to your running style, your weight, and weather conditions your athletic shoes travel in.

To help maintain your running shoes, you can track the mileage on your Nike trainers (or other favorite sneakers) by recording it in your running log.  Try using a permanent marker to record your first run date on the inside of your running shoes.

A visual inspection of running shoes doesn't always tell the whole story.  Your training shoes can look new when they actually need to be retired from use.  You may not even know that the running shoes support has broken down.  If the runner gets new aches and pains, it's best to check his jogging sneakers.  Replace running shoes regularly ... before you need to see the doctor.

If you want to maintain your running shoes, don't expose them to excessive heat.  That means running footwear shouldn't live in the trunk of your car.  Running shoes will last much longer if you keep them out of the clothes dryer also.
