Return to Running Shoes Running injuries can plague even good runners if they have the wrong running shoes. Many runners strap on any pair of used running shoes they can find and then want to know how to run faster. They don't realize that proper running shoes will allow them to reach their full potential. The first thing to understand is that appropriate jogging sneakers protect the foot from the stresses of running. A two mile run can subject the foot to 200 tons of pressure. And all that energy has to go somewhere. Quality running shoes can absorb most of that energy. But if you run in poor athletic shoes, your body will endure most of that pounding which can produce running injuries. You could suffer from pain in your feet, knees, hips, back, shins or ankles. And the source of those injuries could be your running shoes. Typically running shoes will last 300-500 miles which is 5-6 months if you average 20 miles/week. Many runners make the mistake of thinking that their training shoes are okay if the outsole wear is minimal. They don't realize that the critical midsole cushioning will break down before they detect significant wear on the outsole of the running shoes. Therefore, running injuries can occur quickly if an athlete is not alert to these potential problems with his running shoes. For more running information, take a look at the following menu topics:
