Can improper training shoes cause running injuries?

Selecting the best running shoes for you is not too difficult, but first let's mention a running tip that is often overlooked.  Don't forget to properly lace your running shoes.  Loose laces can cause blisters because your foot will move too much in your jogging sneakers.  It also lessens stability making the runner more susceptible to running injuries.  If the laces on your running shoes are too tight, you could develop a pinched nerve in your toes -  a painful running injury.

One function of your running shoes is to provide shock absorption.  Without this protection running injuries can include pain in the knee, hip, back or ankle.  If the toe box in your running shoes is too small, you could develop jogger's toe - an accumulation of blood under the toenails.

If your running shoes are inflexible or even have too much cushioning, a runner is at risk of developing Achilles tendonitis.  This running injury is experienced as pain located at the back of the heel caused by inflammation of the Achilles tendon.

Runners can also suffer from stress fractures in the bones of the leg or foot when their running shoes lack enough shock absorption.  Be sure you wear quality running shoes so you can avoid these potential injuries.
