Do your running shoes need more support with orthotics?

So you think you and your running shoes need orthotics. Before you do ...  have you checked your running footwear?  Do your athletic shoes need to be retired because they have too many miles on them?  Have you tried changing to a better quality running shoe?  Or even switched to a different type of trainer?

Okay.  You've done all of the above and you still need running shoes orthotics.  A cheap alternative is to try an inexpensive pair of arch supports/sport insoles for your running shoes.  If that doesn't work, then try custom orthotics that are molded to your foot.  So who do you talk to about this?

First, start with other runners who use running shoes orthotics.  You can also check with a trainer, team doctor or physical therapist for more advice.  Tip: ask for a temporary wedge under the insoles in your running shoes.  If you notice improvement, then the custom orthotic for your running footwear should work well.

An orthotics professional will ask about your running history.  He will also look at your running shoes and examine your feet and legs.  Then an impression of your feet will be taken before you finally get your running shoes orthotics.
