Tips and hints on waterproof trail running shoes.

Trail shoes go through severe weather conditions sometimes.  A few years ago, the makers of trail running shoes began weatherproofing their athletic shoes.  But runners frequently complained that these waterproof trail runners were too hot.  Gore-Tex brought out a breathable material called XCR to reduce the heat build up.

Gore-Tex claims that trail running shoes are now 30% more breathable.  Most runners would agree that trail running shoes with XCR is much cooler now.

So who should be considering waterproof trail runners?  Well, everyone who is looking for a new pair of trail running shoes who will be running in foul weather conditions like sleet, snow or slop in general.  But remember, weatherproofed trail running shoes won't prevent water from getting to your feet through your socks.

If you want even more help, think about buying a short gaiter to cover your ankles to go with trail running shoes.  But if you run in consistently dry conditions, you can probably skip the waterproof trail running shoes.  Whatever you do, don't skimp on the quality of your athletic shoes.
