Before you choose your trail running shoes, know the terrain you'll be covering.

If you're looking for new trail running shoes, it helps to know the type of terrain you'll be traveling.  Trail running shoes can be subjected to a lot of abuse, so protect your feet from injury with appropriate, quality athletic shoes.

When selecting trail running shoes, it's also helpful to understand your running style.  If your foot leans inward upon footstrike you are an over-pronator.  If so, you should consider one of the many trail running shoes  with motion control built into the midsole and outsole of the athletic shoe.

Now let's talk about the terrain you and your trail running shoes will be covering.  If you expect to run rocky terrain, search for trail runners that offer stability and protection.  So look for more stiffness in your shoes.

The best trail running shoes for rocky surfaces should have a protective plate between the midsole and outsole.  This will protect your feet from sharp objects you might encounter on the trail like rocks or roots.  Instead of a protective plate, you could pick running shoes with heavier cushioning for your trail jogging.

If you run on dirt roads or soft forest trails, then choose less protection and go with a trail running shoe that has more flexibility and cushioning.  There are many online stores that can deliver trail running shoes to match your needs.
